Licensed Insolvency Practitioner and Parker Walsh founder, Molly Monks, was recently invited by the Manchester Evening News to share her professional insight on the recent challenges facing Manchester Pride, following reports that the organisation has entered liquidation.
The article, titled “What now for Manchester Pride?”, explores the financial and operational pressures that led to the event’s collapse - and what might happen next for one of the UK’s most iconic LGBTQ+ celebrations.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Molly explained that the issues faced by Manchester Pride mirror those seen across many not-for-profit and events-based organisations in recent years. Rising operational costs, reduced sponsorship, and changing audience behaviour have all contributed to tighter margins and increased financial risk.
“When costs rise faster than income, even well-established organisations can find themselves in difficulty,” Molly said. “Insolvency doesn’t always mean the end - it can be the start of a process that helps restructure, refocus, and protect the core purpose of what the organisation stands for.”
She went on to stress that transparent financial management and early intervention are key to avoiding long-term damage.
“The lesson from cases like this is clear: act early, review cash flow regularly, and be realistic about future revenue. Pride events have such an important social role, and with the right advice, there’s every opportunity to rebuild stronger for the future.”
Molly’s expert commentary highlights the vital role insolvency professionals play in helping organisations navigate financial distress responsibly - balancing legal obligations with a focus on community and continuity.
As discussions continue about the future of Manchester Pride, Molly’s contribution to the Manchester Evening News helps shed light on how early financial advice and structured recovery planning can preserve important cultural institutions, even in challenging economic times.
